The first document on a trans - Atlantic sugar transaction

In his second voyage to the New World, Columbus sent a memorial, through Antonio Torres, to the Spanish Catholic Kings, Fernando and Isabel. The memorial was written in January 30, 1494 at the first European town in America, Isabella, Hispanola Island.
In this memorial Columbus asked, specially for the sick people, some food supplies, including cane syrup and cane sugar.
He asked the Spanish Kings to buy in Madeira Island, Portugal, fifty drums of cane syrup and "... if any caravel when returning (to America) passes there (Madeira) it could be bought ten sugar boxes...".

This document is certainly the first document of a trans - Atlantic sugar transaction!
